What will happen to my WhatsApp if I deactivated the SIM no. it was initially registered with and inserted a new SIM in the same device? Will I need to register with the new number?

Nothing, once account is verified whatsapp no need to go for sim card but remember one thing you may have to verify it again so keep previous number with you in working condition otherwise someone can hijack your account. I advise to change the number if you don't want to keep two numbers. If you upgrade to new device than you have to verify account again or even if you uninstall whatsapp than you have to verify again. If someone will get your sim or another soon with same number and if S/he tries to activate whatsapp your whatsapp will stores working.

Your WhatsApp will continue to function on the old number.

However, if you ever change your phone or reset this one, you may be asked to revalidate it, which you will be unable to do.

You can use WhatsApp's option in the settings to change your number to the new one. This will update your number in everyone else's chat with you, and you will be able to continue old chats on your new number seamlessly

As long as you continue to use Whatsapp, there won't be any problem. But in case of whatsapp ask you t reverify, you will have to use your new number to register again and lose all the chat records, because you will not be able to receive SMS on your old number.

If you had uninstalled whatsapp while deactivating the sim, you need to register with the new number while installing whatsapp. Whatsapp asks for your phone number only during installation.

This will be a different whatsapp account with a different number.

As mentioned by others, you need to reverify the new number to proceed.

The WhatsApp access is “tied” to the phone number, not to the device. Since the phone number is in the SIM.

Once you change the phone number (can do it on the web-site, as I recall, or using the PC / MAC application), you are good to go.

Also, if you have number portability in your country, perhaps you can ask the new SIM provider to transfer the old number for use on the new SIM - even simpler if it is the same operator! In that case, you would not need to do anything to get WhatsApp to work.

Nothing!!!!!!!!!!!! Literally nothing.

You can continue to use whats app on the previously registered No. , with the new SIM, on the same device like nothings changed. The problem arises only if:

1. You register a new Whats App account with the new number and on the same device, in which case you loose your previous account with no way to get it back as Whats App requires you to enter a one time password to verify your No. and the one time password is going to be sent via text Msg. to the No. you deactivated.

When you download and install WhatsApp on your phone, it will ask you for a phone number.

This is where the app will send the verification code required to activate your account.

Once this verification code is sent to the number and the account successfully verified, you no longer need this SIM cardto receive or send WhatsApp messages. All you need is an internet connection.

While the above method will still keep you online as far as WhatsApp messages and calls are concerned, any person who tries to reach you via the normal phone call or SMS will not be successful
