Nothing, once account is verified whatsapp no need to go for sim card but remember one thing you may have to verify it again so keep previous number with you in working condition otherwise someone can hijack your account. I advise to change the number if you don't want to keep two numbers. If you upgrade to new device than you have to verify account again or even if you uninstall whatsapp than you have to verify again. Otherwise no need to keep same sim for ...

This is where the app will send the verification code required to activate your account.
Once this verification code is sent to the number and the account successfully verified, you no longer need this SIM cardto receive or send WhatsApp messages. All you need is an internet connection.
While the above method will still keep you online as far as WhatsApp messages and calls are concerned, any person who tries to reach you via the normal phone call or SMS will not be successful
