Deu forts romans antics supervivents

Aquests sĂłn alguns dels antics forts romans supervivents, la majoria dels quals es troben a Gran Bretanya.

Els antics romans eren coneguts per la seva destresa arquitectĂČnica. Encara existeixen diversos arcs romans, aqĂŒeductes, amfiteatres. Els romans tambĂ© van construir nombroses fortaleses dins del rang del seu imperi, algunes de les quals encara es mantenen en peu.

1.) Portus Adurni - Enllaç

Una de les fortaleses romanes mĂ©s ben conservades Ă©s el Portus Adurni. Va ser construĂŻt a la provĂ­ncia romana de Britannia al segle 3rd per protegir la costa sud de Gran Bretanya de les incursions saxones. Durant l'Ăšpoca medieval, es va convertir en un castell i va ser conegut com a castell de Porchester. És el fort romĂ  de peu mĂ©s antic al nord dels Alps. El fort tĂ© una superfĂ­cie de 9 acres i els murs exteriors sĂłn de 6 metres d'alçada amb 3 metres de gruix i amb una longitud de 200 metres.

2.) Arbeia - Enllaç fotogràfic
Anglaterra



Un altre fort romĂ  a Gran Bretanya Ă©s Arbeia que es troba al cim de Lawe i tĂ© vistes al riu Tyne. Aquest gran fort es troba a South Shields, Tyne i Wear a Anglaterra. Aquest fort romĂ  es va construir cap al 120 dC i es va excavar per primera vegada a la dĂšcada de 1870. Tots els edificis moderns del lloc van ser netejats a la dĂšcada de 1970 i el fort ara es coneix com a fort i museu romĂ  d'Arbeia. Arbeia contĂ© els Ășnics graners permanents construĂŻts amb pedra trobats a Gran Bretanya. Aquest fort romĂ  va ser ocupat fins que els romans van abandonar Gran Bretanya al segle 5.>

El fort romà més completament reconstruït a Alemanya és el Saalburg que es troba a la carena de Taunus a Bad Homburg.
Aquest fort forma part de les calcĂ ries de l'Alta Alemanya i va ser declarat Patrimoni de la Humanitat per la UNESCO el 2005.

4.) Mamucium - Enllaçfotogràfic
Anglaterra



Mamucium va ser un fort romà construït a Britannia cap al 79 aC. Aquest fort que està protegit com a monument antic programat es troba dins de la zona de Castlefield de Manchester City, Anglaterra. El fort estava guarnit per una cohort de soldats auxiliars i vigilava la carretera que anava de Chester a York. També es coneix com a Mancunium.

5.) Caer Gybi - Enllaç fotogràfic

Un altre fort romĂ  a Gran Bretanya Ă©s Caer Gybi. Aquest fortlet es troba a Gal·les i es troba al nucli de Holyhead, al comtat d'Anglesey. És una de les Ășniques fortaleses romanes de tres muralles d'Europa. Va ser construĂŻt cap al 4th segle CE per defensar la costa oest contra els atacants marĂ­tims irlandesos. Aquest fort romĂ  va ser donat a Sant Cibi al segle 6 i es va fundar un monestir. Avui, l'esglĂ©sia de Sant Cibi encara es mantĂ© al lloc.

6.) Pons Aelius - Enllaçfotogràfic

Pons Aelius és un fort romà a Britannia i està situat a la riba nord del riu Tyne, Anglaterra. Aquest fort i assentament romà, que també es coneix com a fort romà de Newcastle, es troba a l'extrem oriental de la famosa muralla d'Adrià. El fort té una superfície d'1,5 acres amb aproximadament 2000 habitants.

El fort romĂ  de la tia a la provĂ­ncia romana de Britannia es troba als afores dels lĂ­mits de la ciutat de Coventry, al poble de Baginton, comtat de Warwickshire. Va ser descoberta a la dĂšcada de 1930 i les excavacions van començar a la dĂšcada de 1960. Algunes de les seves muralles van ser reconstruĂŻdes a la dĂšcada de 1970. La tia Fortalesa Romana estĂ  oberta al pĂșblic.

8.) Irgenhausen Castrum – Suïssa

fotogrĂ fic Irgenhausen Castrum Ă©s una fortalesa quadrada romana situada a Irgenhausen, SuĂŻssa. TĂ© una superfĂ­cie de 60 mÂČ amb 4 torres cantoneres i tres torres addicionals. Aquest fort romĂ  va ser construĂŻt al turĂł de Borgonya de 25 metres d'alçada a Pfaffikon, Zuric. Va ser construĂŻt cap al 3rd segle CE.

9.) Deva Victrix - Enllaçfotogràfic
Anglaterra


Deva Victrix va ser un fort construït pels romans a Gran Bretanya. Aquesta fortalesa i ciutat legionària es troba a Cheshire, Anglaterra i va ser fundada als anys 70 CE que contenia seus militars, casernes, graners i banys. També es coneix simplement com a Deva.

10.) Eboracum - Enllaçfotogràfic

Eboracum fou un fort i ciutat de la provĂ­ncia romana de Britannia. Es troba a York, North Yorkshire, Anglaterra.

Top Ten Surviving Ancient Roman Forts

Here are some of the surviving ancient Roman Forts most of which are located in Britain.

The Ancient Romans were known for their architectural prowess. Several Roman arches, aqueducts, amphitheaters are still in existence. The Romans also built numerous forts within the range of their empire some of which are still standing.

1.) Portus Adurni – Britain

One of the best preserved Roman fortresses is the Portus Adurni. It was built in the Roman province of Britannia in the 3rd century to protect the southern coastline of Britain from Saxon raids. During the Medieval period, it was converted into a castle and was known as Porchester Castle. It is the oldest standing Roman fort north of the Alps. The fort has an area of 9 acre and the outer walls are 6 meters in height with 3 meters thickness and with a length of 200 meters.

2.) Arbeia – England

Another Roman fort in Britain is Arbeia which stands on the Lawe Top and overlooks the River Tyne. This large fort is located in South Shields, Tyne and Wear in England. This Roman fort was constructed around 120 CE and was first excavated in the 1870s. All modern buildings on the site were cleared in the 1970s and the fort is now known as Arbeia Roman Fort and Museum. Arbeia contains the only permanent stone-built granaries found in Britain. This Roman fort was occupied until the Romans left Britain in the 5th century.>

3.) Saalburg – Germany

The most completely reconstructed Roman fort in Germany is the Saalburg which is located on the Taunus ridge in Bad Homburg. This fort is part of the Upper German limes and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.

4.) Mamucium – England

Mamucium was a Roman fort built in Britannia around 79 CE. This fort which is protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument is situated within the Castlefield area of Manchester City, England. The fort was garrisoned by a cohort of auxiliary soldiers and guarded the road running from Chester to York. It is also known as Mancunium.

5.) Caer Gybi – Britain

Another Roman fort in Britain is Caer Gybi. This fortlet is located in Wales and stands at the core of Holyhead in the Anglesey County. It is one of Europe’s only three-walled Roman forts. It was built around 4th century CE to defend the west coast against Irish sea-raiders. This Roman fort was given to Saint Cybi in the 6th century and a monastery was founded. Today, the Church of St Cybi still stands on the site.

6.) Pons Aelius – Britain

Pons Aelius is a Roman fort in Britannia and is situated on the north bank of the River Tyne, England. This fort and Roman settlement, which is also known as Newcastle Roman Fort, is located on the eastern end of the famous Hadrian’s Wall. The fort has an area of 1.5 acres with approximately 2000 population.

7.) Lunt Roman Fort – Britain

The Lunt Roman Fort in the Roman province of Britannia is located just outside the city boundaries of Coventry, in the village of Baginton, Warwickshire County. It was discovered in the 1930s and excavations began in the 1960s. Some of its walls were reconstructed in the 1970s. Lunt Roman Fort is open to the public.

8.) Irgenhausen Castrum – Switzerland

Irgenhausen Castrum is a Roman square fort located in Irgenhausen, Switzerland. It has an area of 60 mÂČ with 4 corner towers and three additional towers. This Roman fort was constructed on the 25 meter tall Burglen hill in Pfaffikon, Zurich. It was built around the 3rd century CE.

9.) Deva Victrix – England

Deva Victrix was a fort built by the Romans in Britain. This legionary fortress and town is located in Cheshire, England and was founded in the 70s CE it contained military headquarters, barracks, granaries and baths. It is also simply known as Deva.

10.) Eboracum – Britannia

Eboracum was a fort and city in the Roman province of Britannia. It is located in York, North Yorkshire, England.
