This video will show you how to turn on and off your wifi connection automatically in Samsung Galaxy S5 phone. If your wifi connection runs always in background your battery charge decreases. If you set a fixed time for your wifi connection to turn on it will save a significant amount of battery charge. This feature will save your battery life. Watch the video and follow all the steps carefully.

Hmmm I don't have that option. Between "Always Allow Scanning" and "Install Certificates", I have a different option: "Smart Network Switch" which is an on/off toggle. No "Wi-Fi Timer" :(

I'm still getting notifications though both wifi and wifi timer are off. the device automatically turns on the wifi in range, receives the notifications (such as what's up, facebook etc...) then turns it off again.

Any solution for that please?

I bought my husband a Samsung Galaxy S5 for his birthday. I have it connected to my wifi at home and have put the setting to automatically use wifi whenever it's available. For some reason it is still using our data even though it's connected to wifi. It used 500 mg yesterday and wan't even out of the house. Any suggestions, and also, can you disable the internet?

My galaxy s5 is auto connecting to my wifi every minute since upgrading the to android 4.4.4. I have already unchecked the always allow scanning. I've rebooted it, forgot the network and resigned in, unchecked network notifications, and changed the ip to static and nothing has changed. This wouldn't bother me so much if it didn't have an effect on the battery, but the screen lights up everytime it connects to the wifi. Anyone else having this issue or have a solution?

Go to settings, under network connections tap "more networks", then tap"mobile networks", then "connections optimizer" and turn it off. This will stop WiFi from connecting even though it is turned off.

On my S5, there is no <> in that location. Any other suggestions? It devastates my battery. (Makes an excellent pocket warmer, though!))

How do I prevent my Samsung S5 from trying to connect to random Wi-Fi networks?

From WiFi advanced unselect option for scanning , this for avoiding notifications and connecting to public networks.

I think the problem is not detailed properly, let me guess with these two answers.

Your S5 will only automatically connect to the WiFi Access Point ID (SSID) which might be named exactly the same like the one used in your home or your office, previously connected by the S5. The solution to this problem is changing your SSID name in your office and in your home WiFi connection, so that it might not be similar to the ones on the road.

If you want to stop scanning (and notifying) for newer random WiFi SSID automatically, you can go to Settings, Wireless, Wi-Fi, press menu button, choose Advanced, then disable this "Network notification" option.

I hope it helps.

Press and hold wifi symbol after pulling down the notification panel, press and hold menu button (the one on the left of the home button) then press advanced, remove the tick of the Network notification and Always allow scanning. Press back button few times until you come back to home screen.
That's all...

Thank You!...

In system settings go to WIFI -> Advanced.
Here uncheck Passpoint.

Your device should not connect to any WIFI network unless it is either Passpoint certified or you have connected to it before.

Go to settings option of your handset  and setup manually
, if the problem continues then add your mobile with USB cable and scan with pc or laptop then open command prompt and type "netstat" find the IP of your phone after  that configure its wi-fi for never......

Turn off the WiFi.

You can do this manually. I use Juice Defender, which, among other things, tracks your location and automatically turns off your WiFi when you leave a known WiFi location (and turns it back on again when you return).

Turn your wifi off. It will save your battery life and also keep you safe.
If you are too lazy to this. Try some applications that will automatically turn it off when you're not connected.

Go to network, select advance and turn off scanning.

Moreover, tap on wifi there may be networks list delete all networks.

switch the wireless off when you’re going out of ‘friendly wireless’ range.
