SMART 450 INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL

PROBLEMS WITH SMART 450 INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL

Good evening dear friends,

I'm new here and I'm glad I found such a big forum.

Unfortunately, I have a small problem that I hope you can help me with. I bought a 2003 Smart 450 Facelift convertible about 4 months ago. When I bought it, there were 2 keys, but one didn't work at all. The second is an infrared remote control..... It was also very stiff when I bought it, but after changing the battery it was a little better. Nevertheless, I always had to press directly on the windshield until the car opened or closed. For 2 days I have to make out for almost a quarter of an hour until you open or close your door.

I have already replaced batteries from the key, but it has not brought any improvement.

What can I do???? As it stands, there are probably only a few smart ones with infrared remote control.

Thank you and greetings

That's exactly how it is, most Smarts have a wireless remote control.

Infrared remote controls were actually mainly used in export smarts, which were delivered to Spain, for example.

Of course, this doesn't make things any easier for you, because it will be very difficult to get a replacement key. ☹️

If both buttons, i.e. the open and close buttons, both work from time to time, then there is either the possibility that both buttons have a quirk or that the error comes from another direction.

But the possibilities to narrow down further here are of course virtually non-existent.

The only thing I could think of would be to open the key and re-solder the solder joints on the IR LEDs or check the other solder joints for cold solder joints.

Thank you for your message. Wanted to call a smart center tomorrow. Do you think they can help me??

Bad to say. I have doubts that there are still complete IR remote+keyes as spare parts

But as we all know, asking costs nothing. But take heart drops or beta-blockers first, because the price for them will increase your pulse and make you sweat on your forehead if they were still available.

Probably the simplest solution if you know someone with a cataract diagnosis.

Hmm.
